Fans
are nearly ideal solar powered loads. They can run directly off
DC, (as with all of the following products). Solar powered fans
run when they are needed the most - when the sun is shining. |
Attic venting is an
important aspect in maintaining the functions in your home. Proper venting
cools your roof extending the material life and reduces the load on your
air conditioning system. Attic venting also increases fresh air circulation
which reduces vapor build up generated by everyday activities like showering
and cooking. Excess moisture trapped in your attic can cause a variety of
problems from rust to rot to incresed bacteria and mold counts which can
have a direct impact on your respiratory health! Passive vents have been
a part of building codes for years but to really get the benefit of venting,
soffit vents, ridges vents and louvers rely on nature to provide sufficient
air pressure and air movement. So the majority of the time your attic is
stagnant and continues to build up heat and moisture.
Use the sun's energy for years of worry-free, no-cost cooling & air
circulation.

Solar
Fans
During summer months, your attic temperatures can reach 150°F. High
temperatures cause an increase in temperature in the living space
and an increase in energy consumption by air conditioning equipment.
Forced ventilation will circulate cooler air through the attic space
and lower the temperature. Fan and solar module combinations allow
daytime ventilation and air circulation anywhere the sun shines.
They are great for greenhouses, kennels, barns and attics where
AC power is not available. The solar module runs the fan at full
power in full sun and at a slower speed in overcast weather. Operation
is automatic. When the sun shines on the solar module, the fan begins
to operate. The 12 and 16 solar fan kits include fan,
solar module and 10 of two conductor wire. |
Solar
Powered Fan Kits
These kits include our venturi fan, a solar module, mounting hardware and
10 of wire. The fan can deliver 550-1000 CFM when the module is in
full sun. The reversible, ball bearing PM motor allows the fan to be used
for intake or exhaust by reversing the wire at the motor. The fan is the
Venturi fan from below. Add a three way switch to turn the fan off or reverse
direction. Add another 10 watt module for $120 to increase the flow.

Ceiling
Fan
This hanging ceiling fan runs on a 12 or 24 volt battery system.
They move a lot of air at 24 volts and are great in large rooms
with vaulted ceilings. A speed control is recommended so that you
can adjust how fast they run. At 12 volts they move less air and
work great for fairly low ceilings, but are slightly under-powered
in large rooms with vaulted ceilings. The step-up control below
gives you variable voltage, from 0 to 20, from a 12 volt input and
make the fan perfect for any situation. These fans have simulated
wood grain blades that can be painted and a black molded body. (Fan
comes with blade painting instructions.) They can be configured
with 4 or 5 blades and installed close mount (as pictured) or with
a downrod to distance the fan from the ceiling. With
the downrod connected, the motor hangs approximately 8 inches from
the ceiling. Current draw is 0.5 amps at 12 V and approximately
1.5 amps at 24 V. All hardware included. Made in USA. 1 year warranty;
90 day warranty on motor. |

Fan
Speed Control with Reversing Switch
These variable speed controls work well with all of the fans on
this page, or for controlling any 12 or 24 volt permanent magnet
motor with a current draw of 1.5 amps or less. The 12 volt version
increases the voltage to allow three times the air movement by the
fan than you would get running it directly on 12 volts. The center
position of the switch is off. Pushing the switch to either side
turns the fan on, but one way makes the motor turn clockwise and
the other way makes the motor turn counterclockwise. Filtering in
the circuitry keeps audio noise to a minimum. The 12 volt voltage
increaser is in a double-gang wall plate. |

Evaporative Cooler
The evaporative cooler below works well in climates with very low
humidity. Air is cooled when it blows through a wet medium because
the moving dry air causes the water to evaporate, or change from
a liquid to a gas. When water changes from liquid to gas, it removes
heat, causing a cooling effect. Evaporative coolers work best when
humidity is under 30%. They will not work if the humidity is over
50%. |

Kit for SolarCool Evaporative Cooler
Using a 75 watt solar module and a linear current booster with the
evaporative cooler above, you can produce cool air even when the
sun is not directly overhead. It runs only when the sun is shining,
just when you usually need cooling. When the morning sun strikes
the solar module, the cooler begins to run at low speed. As the
sun reaches noon, the output of the solar module increases and so
does the cooling. The Linear Current Booster matches the output
of the solar module to the optimum voltage and current required
by the motor in the cooler. It even allows the cooler to run at
very low speed in cloudy weather. This kit includes a 75 watt solar
module, 20 feet of wire and a Linear Current Booster. Order cooler
above separately. |

Heating
and Cooling Thermostats
These thermostats can switch up to 22 amps at 120 VAC and they work
fine for up to 10 amps at 12 or 24 VDC. Use them with DC fans to
turn the fans on or off as temperature changes. They mount in a
standard 2 x 4 electrical box. The Attic Fan Thermostat
has single pole contacts that close (turn fan on) as temperature
rises. Its adjustment range is 90ºF to 130ºF. When the thermostat
reaches the turn-on temperature, it must fall by 15ºF before it
will turn off. The Heat/Cool Thermostat has double throw contacts,
so it can be used to turn a fan on as the temperature rises or as
it falls, depending on how it is wired. Its range is 50ºF to 90ºF
and its differential is 2ºF. |
