“Autotransformer” / Battery Equalizer
Use these high efficiency DC to DC converters to create
½ or 2 times available battery voltage. In other words,
these converters are bi-directional, so single units
can step-up or step-down. Used as a battery equalizer
or a DC voltage converter. For instance, you can run
24 volt loads on 12 volt systems and 12 volt loads on
24 volt systems with the 12/24 model. Or if you have
12 volt loads connected to half your 24 volt battery
bank, keep the bank equalized by connecting the high+
to the 24 volt terminal, connect the low+ to the 12
volt point and connect the negative wire to battery
negative and keep the two halves of the battery bank
equal. See the chart below for current maximums. (I.e.:
the 12/24V model can run 20 amps at 12 volts and 10
amps at 24 volts). Efficiency is greater than 95%. NEMA

notebook computers directly from 12 or 24 volt batteries.
The output voltage is held steady, regardless of battery
or load variations. Output is easily adjustable with
a small screwdriver up to supply voltage minus 1 Volt.
Efficiency is approximately 88%. 2 amp versions fit
in a single gang box and have an ivory metal switch
plate with an on/off switch. 8 amp versions come in
an outdoor-type 4.5" x 3" x 3" outlet

Battery Equalizer
If you have a 24 volt battery system, but you want to
power some 12 volt loads, this device allows you to
draw 12 volts from ½ of the battery bank, but keep the
entire bank balanced. It is a great solution when you
upgrade to a large 24 volt inverter, but wish to maintain
some of your 12 volt appliances and lights. It also
allows you to charge a 24 volt battery bank from a 12
volt source, or use a different size or age battery
for the two 12 volt halves of a 24 volt battery system,
and they will charge and discharge evenly! Order a model
with an amp rating higher than the total amp hours per
day used in the 12 volt system, divided by 24. If the
12 volt loads draw more current than the rated capacity
of the equalizer, excess current is drawn from battery
A. The equalizer will even-off the charge when the load
is reduced. |
